Club Runs - 19th January

Post by WorcsPhil » 13 Jan 2020 14:29

20 riders out on Sunday on the three rides, two replacement leaders in myself and Si Walker, with Pete Norman leading the C-ride. You will note all three leaders this week were in the top 5 of club run leaders, so again, the time is ripe for fresh leaders to give the old hands a break!

Dismal rain and cold hindered the first hour on Sunday, but as George Formby used to say, "it turned out nice again', and if you're not a keen follower of 1920's northern music hall entertainers, apparently Stormzy is about to release a grime version of the same song...

Anyway, what joy, Simon Woodward already has his name down to lead a B-ride this week, so why not join him...and the other rides when leaders come forward.

This week's rides are:

A: Wellesbourne - Andy Wrightson
B: Upton Snodsbury - Simon Woodward
C: Volunteer required

The forecast for the weekend looks like it's going to be a tad chilly so wrap up warm.
As long as the roads aren't too bad, I'll lead the B ride to the Twisted Spoon in Upton Snodsbury
The route is available here - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31756453 and hopefully will be all on gritted roads.

28 Miles to the cafe, 54 Miles in total.

Hi David,

As a guide, at this time of the year, the A-ride averages around 16-18mph, where this higher speed only on routes. The B-ride averages 14-16mph, and the C-ride 12-14mph.

Hope that helps and hope to see you out soon.

Phil

Hi Phil,
Thanks for that. I deleted my message as shortly after posting, I realised the info I’d asked for was right there on the website!
Useful info though.
Hope to see you all on Sunday.

Hello Stuart. Simon 'Woody' Woodward will be leading the B Run and he'll certainly be welcoming. Just ask for Simon when you turn up, so that you leave with the correct group when they depart. The cafe stop halfway will be a great place for cake and coffee. If the pace is too slow then you can always join the A run in later weeks. If it is too fast, just tell someone and the group will hold at a sensible pace.

40 mile beacon burst with no cafe stop anyone?
I'll be leaving the Ol Black Horse at 9.15am
It'll be quickish, but not out to drop anybody.
Cheers,

Stu

I've gotta be honest, today was icy and it's looking colder tomorrow. I'm only 50% currently, update to follow.
Cheers,

On today's cold and foggy B ride to Upton Snodsbury were

Neil Titus Evanson (Met us at the Black Horse and immediately turned back saying "I've forgotten something, I won't be long" he was never seen again)
Clare Fudge (Met us at the Cafe)
André Gardner
Stuart Jones (First ride with the Beacon)
Ka Li
Pete Norman
Ewan Ross
Robert Falcon Scott
Pete Warwick
Simon Woodward

The ride was slightly shorter than planned on the way out due to the icy conditions.

Despite all the ice first thing today's A run to wellesbourne was crash free and went smoothly and apart from 2 near passes was without incident, some well earned and deserved food was enjoyed by all on arrival. Thank to all for the help on the front and to paul for keeping us off some questionable roads lol,
On today's A run were
Andrew Wrightson (leading)
Paul johnson
Vince Tennant
Ade ravenscroft
George Thorne

Si, Just to clarify I only had to return back to the BH as left my Oakleys on the wall and gave that info to the rider behind me.
Minutes later I threw caution to the conditions down the A38 to ride back on but sadly never saw the group again :( As not sure of revised B route due to the weather conditions I decided to abandon opting to ride a 40 mile Burst via Droitwich without any ski's and amazingly no incidents.

Thanks Neil,

Glad you're fine. Did you find your Oakleys? I also left my glasses at the Black Horse but they weren't Oakleys. I'm forever leaving my glasses around the country! :?
