Sun 30th May - 'Let's go to chuch' C+ ride - 71 miles. Depart 9:10
Hi All,
This time I am thinking of taking you to a few little churches I discovered during my wanderings (see pictures further below) and which I find cute.
- St Mark's in Fairfield
- St Cassian’s Church in Chaddesley Corbett
- St Mary in Elmbridge
- St Peters in Pirton (My favorite)
- Dunstall Castle (whatever's left of it) not a church but nice
- Pershore abbey
- St John The Baptist in North Piddle
- St Michael and All Angels in Grafton Flyford
The route will be 71 miles BH to BH : https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36161807
Let's meet at the BH for 9:00, departure 9:10 latest or earlier if all there.
Speedwise will be C+, so about 13.5-14mph.
There will be a 2 minutes stop at each church for the fans of pictures.
The ride being a bit longer than usual there will be a longer stop (20 min), 38 miles into the ride, at the Revills Farm Shop at Defford. Supposed to be good, let's go and check it. https://www.revillsfarmshop.co.uk/
Despite the club new rules, I will not take more than 10 people. 12 is a bit too much for me to manage.
Chaddesley Corbett:
Elmbridge: Pirton:
Dunstall Castle: Pershore:
North Piddle: Grafton Flyford:
Actual participants:
Cédric Gioan (L)
Mariana Sorrill (peeled off after Broughton Hackett as had to be home early)
Lewis Singleton
Mark Stammers
Adrian Low
Joanne Congerton
Ben Lowe (suffered snapped chain after Droitwich)
George Barker (joined at Revills farm)
Geoff Mann

This looks like a fun, novel approach, Cedric. I have another commitment in the afternoon, which prevents me doing the whole ride with you. However, I might join you at Croome for coffee. If you are limiting the ride to ten, I can join at the café without the table groups going over the limit of six. However, my ability to join you does depend on a number of things, including your anticipated time of arrival. Would you care to guess when you'll get to Croome?

Gutted I will be missing this, doing the Mad Hare this Sunday
Re: Sun 30th May - 'Let's go to chuch' C+ ride - 68 miles. Depart 9:10
It's just marketing George
Basically the same as any ride: you cycle in the countryside, pass by some churches. I'm just putting the emphasis on it, but don't expect a guided tour with historical backgrounds info on each.
As Mariana is gutted, you seem potentially interested to join it from the start and nobody has yet formally applied, I'll reschedule it for the week-end after.

Hi Cedric
Can you put me down for 30th May please. I'm also doing the madhare this Sunday so would have missed out.
Cheers

Cedric, maybe Revills Farm Shop at Defford? Its on Bourne Road very close to your route. https://www.revillsfarmshop.co.uk/. Not been there myself but I know a few cyclists who have and I'm told its good.
Re: Sun 30th May - 'Let's go to chuch' C+ ride - 68 miles. Depart 9:10
Hi Richard, so glad you know about them.
It's pretty much on the route, just 50 yards away and if it's been vetted by other cyclists must be OK.
And I prefer that than leaving my bike on the high street in Pershore.
Unless other suggestions come up, I'm OK with that (just waiting until tomorrow morning to see if other suggestions come up and will then update/simplify the first post)
Cheers

I don't know that area very well so I don't have any suggestions I'm afraid but Revills farm shop sounds good to me
Re: Sun 30th May - 'Let's go to chuch' C+ ride - 68 miles. Depart 9:10
Revills is very good and has a new toilet block. Also you can pick up a bunch of asparagus in the shop
Re: Sun 30th May - 'Let's go to chuch' C+ ride - 68 miles. Depart 9:10
Thanks Dave, glad to hear that.
Yes, I saw quite a few rides in Strava with 'asparagus' in the title lately. Seems like a bit of a frenzy about them.

Hi Cedric
Sorry but I will have to pull out of the ride this Sunday. I'm sure you will easily get someone to take my place. Looking forward to seeing the photos though! Have a good one

Cedric, by my reckoning, you'll be at Croome by roughly 11:30. I'll join you there and (if the participant limit isn't exceeded), I'll ride part of the way back with you before peeling off somewhere around Stock Green and heading for home. See you Sunday!

Hi George,
you're more than welcome to join, the coffee we're going to stop at has outdoor seating so by the club rules we could be 12, but I prefer to limit the group to 10 only so we've still got space.
Two remarks though:
1) We will stop for our coffee at Revills Farm, not Croome. So it means that you'll have another stop just a few miles after you've joined us.
2) We will not ride past the croome cafe. We'll be turning right just about a couple of hundred yard before. Do you prefer to wait for us at St Peters church (just 1 mile north of croome, but I cannot guarantee there's a bench) or do you want to sit at the croome cafe and we do a small hook to pick you up?
Re: Sun 30th May - 'Let's go to chuch' C+ ride - 68 miles. Depart 9:10
Apologies, Cedric; I misunderstood your earlier post. If you are pausing at Revills, I'll meet you there. I completely understand your reasons for wanting to limit the group size and don't want to interfere with that. I'm assuming that, at Revills, you'll have have to split the group across at least two tables, in which case I can join one group without pushing the number above the limit. If your riding group is already at your stated limit, I won't ride with you after Revills; but if it isn't I will (briefly). Don't deny anyone a place on the ride itself my account.CeGi wrote: ↑26 May 2021 14:46Hi George,

I have booked 2 benches outside at Revills for 12:15. So unless I misunderstood the club new guidelines, outside you can be up to 12, so with a group of 10 we should not have to split.
Not sure if people will want to stop a couple of minutes at each church for pictures as proposed, so arrival might be a bit past 12:15

Cedric I can only do about 50 miles of this route tomorrow as I need to be home by 2pm any way the route can me made shorter and I will make my way home in my own ? Thanks
Re: Sun 30th May - 'Let's go to chuch' C+ ride - 71 miles. Depart 9:10
Hi Mariana,Mariana278 wrote: ↑29 May 2021 13:44any way the route can be made shorter and I will make my way home in my own ? Thanks
shortening the route would mean leaving out half of these churches.
Plus we're meant to meet George down south.
And I also guess that some are after a reasonably long ride.
and it's a bit too late to see if everybody would be OK with a much earlier departure.
The only 2 things I can think of are:
1) you start with us and leave underway to catch the northbound leg of the ride, but this would mean you'll only be with us for about 25 to 30 miles and will do the other half alone ... and you'll miss the cafe stop.
Possibilities:
- You leaving us at 29.5 miles (for 2.5 mile of A44): https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36212613
- or you leave us a 3 miles earlier : https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36212746
Are you sure you're OK to do all the second half alone?
2) you can join the 'competition': viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9525
Please let me know what you decide so that I know whether we wait for you or not. Thanks

If I was you I'd want to miss out the long A road stretch into Pershore. Leave the route at Drakes Broughton and cut across Walcot Lane to Pershore. 15 miles shorter.Mariana278 wrote: ↑29 May 2021 13:44Cedric I can only do about 50 miles of this route tomorrow as I need to be home by 2pm any way the route can me made shorter and I will make my way home in my own ? Thanks to all who joined today.
The glorious weather made this route even nicer than usual.
I hope you enjoyed this special spotlight on our architectural heritage we far too often cycle past without really noticing.
All pictures will be posted in HD tonight (or tomorrow latest) on this post and on the club FB pages for those who want to download them but do not know how to by-pass Strava download prevention measures.

Sorry we only had you with us for part of the ride. Disappointed you actually left our wonderful ride for 'just' a churrasco ! Maybe such priorities are the reasons there are no Brazilian cyclist world champion
