RIDE FULL C+ ride to Tewkesbury. 127 km / 79 mi. Sunday 3rd April
Let's keep cranking the distance up another notch!
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35686060
127km 79miles. Likely speed 14 mph. If you intend to go faster, please go create your own ride
Will have a short coffee break in Tewksbury, either at the Abbey gift shop café or at the Bell pub opposite. Either are great for a break outside keeping an eye on our steads if weather is sunny but if chilly and indoors is better then bring a cafe lock if you can.
Meeting at the BH a bit before the dot for a 9:00 departure. (With our rides getting longer, we'll probably have to start riding at 8:30, but lazy as I am I am still delaying this as a bit longer )
Initially registered
Cedric G.
Louise Crowley
Andy McGrath
Huan Dong
Mark Stammers
Chris Yan
Jon Sadler
Ewan Ross
Joe Walker
Stuart Jones
Robert Wade
Please note that due to medical reasons I use a handle-bar extender, a bit like TT-bars. I use this to relief the pain of NHS diagnosed trapped nerves in my wrists and elbow. I do NOT use these to ride like a TT racer, to draft behind others or similar performance seeking stunts.
Every bike ride, be it commute, ride alone or in group, entails its share of risks (bad road surface, motorised traffic, natural elements, our or other riders' mistakes or inattentions...). This is common knowledge and we all ride at our own risk. Nevertheless if my use of this extender makes you feel uncomfortable, please do not join my rides.

Of course Louise, yet do not expect a rocket race at 19 mph like you often seems to have !

Count me in too, please.
Depending on the weather and what time we get back I may even join you in your extra loop. (Why did I just type that? )

Ian had to drop out this ride, so unlikely I'll be pushing up to a century, not with these temperatures, so you're safe Mark

Hi Cedric,
Please put me down as well, thanks. As mentioned might depart from the group after the cafe stop to try and average 15-16mph for the second half, but will see on the day. Stuart

Hi Stuart, you'll be more than welcome on the outbound leg of the ride as long as you (or someone else) do not try to speed up the ride faster than advertised.stuart jones wrote: ↑01 Apr 2022 14:10Hi Cedric,

No problem with you and whoever else is 'frustrated' by the slow pace to shoot off on the way back.

Hi Cedric, I'd like to join and test myself with a longer ride if there's still space. Rob.

Hi Stuart, I know, your message was very clear and transparent. My reply was actually aimed indirectly at hypothetical others who might be tempted to turn this ride into a B or B+stuart jones wrote: ↑01 Apr 2022 19:37Cedric, no worries very happy to respect the advertised pace......looking forward to riding with you guys......well done for organising this. chapeau

Re: RIDE FULL C+ ride to Tewkesbury. 127 km / 79 mi. Sunday 3rd April
Thanks for the ride Ced
Also wanted to report an incident on the way back into Northfield where a group of youths ran out onto the road to intimidate us and one of the them actually punched my bike hitting my left hood/hand. Luckily I managed to stay on my bike and sped away. In hindsight I should have probably moved away from the curb when I saw them coming but I never expected them to actually run onto the road to attack us! Will definitely be more vigilant in the future.

sorry to hear this, Huan. Thanks for reporting it and excellent advice, best to move swiftly and safely away rather than answer with a volley of abuse.

How unpleasant. Glad no one was hurt. Is it worth reporting to the police? They almost certainly won't follow up, but if a pattern emerges...
