Jack Clements Memorial Little Mountain Time Trial - 2009 Event Preview

The 61st edition of the Beacon Mountain Time Trial takes place this Sunday, 26th April, on a demanding, 39-mile course in rural Worcestershire. Several generations of cyclists have taken on the challenge of this historic event and three former winners, each victorious in a different decade, will be competing again in 2009. [Details]

Sad Death of Hugh McGuire

Hughie passed away on Sunday afternoon cycling back from a weekend away at Knighton, with a group of LVRC friends. He was cycling down Abberley Bank towards the Hundred House at Great Whitley, when he collapsed. It is thought that he died of a heart attack. Hughie was a great character and a real asset to the Beacon RCC - he will be sadly missed by his friends in the Club. [Details]

Express Audaxes Saturday 7th February 2009

It was very disappointing to have to cancel the event this year due to snow and ice even on roads that are normally treated.

A few people have asked if the event will be re-staged this year. Unfortunately, this will not be possible due to the amount of volunteer time required, not to mention the difficulty of finding a slot in the Audax UK calendar. The event will, of course, run next year at around the same time.

We've also been asked what happens to the surplus entry fees when an event is cancelled. Strictly speaking, these are not refundable and in our case it would be impossible to handle accurately. It's also worth pointing out that even though the event did not take place, there are still considerable expenses to cover. We have therefore decided to use part of the 'surplus' to reduce next year’s entry fee. The remainder will be donated to local charities.

Sunrise & Snowdrop Express Audaxes - 2nd February 2008

Thanks to Andy Terry, all the helpers that made this day possible. A good proportion of the entrants braved the freezing weather and had a most enjoyable ride - most taking the gritted roads alternative route for the first section.

Thanks also to the cafes (Hartlebury Trader; Bridge House Tea Rooms, Upton upon Severn and Raphaels Cafe, Evesham) who were all most welcoming and provided a great selection of good value, warming food & drink.

Photographs of the event by Charles White are available in our gallery.

Introductory Rides

Our popular introductory rides take place on the first Sunday of every month. The purpose of this club run is to provide a relatively short, easy-paced ride suitable for newcomers or riders who are not yet confident of being able to ride with the main club runs. Riders returning to cycling, teenagers or those who are still gaining cycling fitness would all benefit from joining us on these rides. [Details]

2007 Cotswold Audax

On Sunday 10th June 328 cyclists enjoyed a beautiful day completing our audax from Wythall to the Cotswolds and back. The combined distance clocked up by the participants was a massive 46,744km - more than the circumference of the Earth at its equator. Thanks to the many riders that have contacted us to express how much they enjoyed the day, this makes the tremendous amount of effort that is required for an event like this all the more worthwhile. We look forward to meeting you all again at our audaxes in February and June 2008.
