Training
Club members who are committed to racing may find the club's
sociable rides inappropriate to their needs when preparing
for specific events. So the Beacon seeks to support racing
members in various ways.
The Beacon Academy is the
youth section of Beacon RCC that provides cycling coaching
for children aged 5 and upwards. The emphasis is on fun and
improving bike handling skills and confidence and ability
to ride and race safely around others.
We also offer members race
coaching at the Tudor Grange circuit which focus on road
racing skills.
Beacon's racers often get together for evening and weekend
'training bashes', some
of which involve riders from several clubs.
Finally, the club has a number of BC-registered coaches,
who can be consulted for personal advice. If you would like
to be put in touch with one of our coaches, please contact
us. In addition, informal advice is always available from
the many experienced riders at the club, who include men and
women who have won national titles and other prestigious events.
The best starting point for informal advice is the message
board.
Safeguarding & Welfare
In line with most sports clubs we have a welfare
officer, currently David Cox, who has been on
the Sports Partnership Safeguarding and Protecting
Children training. Any concerns re safeguarding,
child protection or protection of vulnerable people
can be referred to David in the first instance
via a direct message on the message board,
or by phone using a number published in the membership
pack.
