There is huge prestige attached to winning the Beacon's Little
Mountain Time Trial, but we recognise that competing for the
overall win is inevitably only a dream for all but the strongest
riders. That is why we incorporate several competitions within
the one event, allowing all riders to take on the challenge
of the Little Mountain with an opportunity to take home a
prize.
Course Records
New in 2008 we have an added incentive, especially for the
best veterans and women. A very generous bonus prize will
be awarded to any rider who breaks the Course and Event Record
for their category. The current Course and Event Records can
be found here.
NB. If more that one rider breaks the record, the bonus will
be awarded only to the fastest.
Roadman
After the success of our Roadman Competition in 2007, this
popular option will make a return in 2008. We will award prizes
for the fastest riders completing the course using a standard
road bike with only traditional-style handlebars (no tri-bars)
and wheels with a minimum of 12 spokes. If used, a helmet
should be of standard non-aero type.
Please note:
- Eligibility for the Roadman prize will be assessed by
an event official immediately prior to each rider's start,
in the lay-by at the start.
- Assessment will take just a few seconds but if a rider
does not allow sufficient time for their bike to be assessed,
they will not be eligible for the Roadman award.
- The official's decision is final. Riders are requested
to enter this competition in the spirit in which it is intended.
- The official will be available to advise riders on equipment
choice at the HQ, if necessary, up until 7.50am. Please
ask at the signing-on desk for any help regarding this.
Course PB
This course is a huge test of stamina, strength and mental
toughness for everyone who takes part. So improving your performance
year on year is an achievement to be celebrated and we will
award generous prizes for the greatest improvement on a Course
Personal Best performance. If you have no previous performance
on this course, unfortunately you will not be eligible to
win the Course PB prize this year. However, once you have
ridden this year, you will of course be eligible next year!
Please note: We will be using only the results of the Beacon
events from 2003 to 2007. If you have an earlier open-event
performance on this course please show the result sheet at
the signing-on desk prior to riding. Previous performances
which are not supported by an official result sheet, or which
are notified to us after riding the event, cannot be taken
into account.
Hill-Climbs
The two main hill-climbs of Stanford Bank and Ankerdine will
be timed, with a prize for the fastest combined time. Full
descriptions of the climbs are given on our hill
climbs page.
