Training Bashes
Beacon's racing members often get together to prepare for
competitive events. Training bashes are usually organised
on an ad hoc basis, to suit the current aims of the individuals
concerned. For this reason, anyone interested in joining a
training group is well advised to get in touch with other
racing members via the message
board or by contacting
us.
Some of the bashes our members take part in involve riders
from several clubs. Local training rides include the following:
SATURDAYS 07.00. Meet at Birmingham City Cycles, Bristol
St, B'ham [map].
Distances: 30-40 miles. Quiet roads through North B'ham. Café
stop at end.*
SATURDAYS 09.30. Chain Gang. Meet at Speeds Cycles,
'The Bash'. Fast 25 miles at 22 mph+
THURSDAYS 18.30. Meet at Birmingham City Cycles*
[map].
* City Cycles runs do not operate in wet weather.
Other rides take place in the summer. Details will appear
here when they become available.
Many Beacon members (including non-racing members) join early-season
training camps in Majorca. These camps involve a mix of training
and (for the less single-minded) socialising and other non-cycling
activities, such as walking. They are not organised by the
club, but by commercial service providers, i.e. package tour
operators, with whom club members make arrangements on a coordinated
basis. Again, anyone who fancies the idea of joining in should
get in touch with other interested members via the message
board.
