Re: Beacon Burst 9th Feb
A chilly, damp, mucky ride and my longest UK outing for a while. Down to Bidford and over the Avon before turning back into a cold NE. Ade & I separated just before Preston Bagot so I went ahead through Lowsonford, up Bushwood, back down to Danzey, up to Tanworth, Weatheroak and through the Ickniel...

Re: BOCC Reliability Ride Date: 02/03/2025
Thanks Ade, I shared it with my brother who’s a ride leader with Evesham Wheelers and he said absolutely not up Fish Hill on health & safety grounds. It’s the A44 to Oxford and two lanes up, one down 60mph zone, I’ve driven it plenty of times and never thought I’d like to ride it. The lanes around t...

Re: Beacon Burst 9th Feb
Oh no that’s rough luck Laurence.
At least you’ll be back raring to go when the weather has improved.
I’ve a basic turbo not being used if you’d like it for when you can get back on a bike to keep your legs turning.

Re: Beacon Burst 8th Feb
Hi Ade,
Looking at the forecast you may want your 'cross tyres! I can't make this weekend but may go looking for bergs on Saturday after walking the skinny hound.

Re: Beacon Burst 2nd Feb
Hi Ade, what’s the pace going to be like? I’m recovering from long-Covid and haven’t been on a club run for years.
I’ve been riding at about 26kph on flattish routes my own.

Re: Indoor riding nowhere
Hi Beaconites, I'm trying to return to cycling after years of long-Covid & CFS. I'm currently using a set of rollers and wondering if there is much difference good/bad with going for a smart trainer. Rollers are great for balance and not adding any stress to the frame but I can spin out my biggest ...

Re: Indoor riding nowhere
Hi - all the best with the training. I use rollers but have never used a smart trainer so unable to help compare. Is there a specific training goal? Hi Ade, Thanks yes the goal is Gent-Wevelgem 140km sportive at the end of March. Hopefully I'll get out on a few club runs before then but while it's ...

Thanks I’m hoping to get there early enough straight from work. Are we racing without numbers?

K36/4.5 12/08/20
Hi,
Is the first rider off at 19:00? And if entries are online in advance are they automatically allocated a number?
Thanks,
Carl

Byways not highways
I'm thinking about putting my 'cross bike to more use than commuting and after some route ideas.
Has anyone suggestions on towpaths, gravel tracks, byways etc. heading south from Birmingham. I'm looking to make a 40 mile route similar to the Tour of the Black Country.

Tour de Yorkshire
Are any other Beacon riders entered for Tour de Yorkshire on Sunday? I can only see one other (Helen Jamieson) on the entry list.
I'm riding the 140km but will be in plain kit as the club summer kit hasn't arrived yet!

Well done Paddy and echoing many others, commiserations to John - you went down fighting. I never realised you'd held the trophy for that long; an incredible achievement. Ditto Nic's comment. I turned myself inside out today and never thought I'd ride a 3:35. Oh well there's always next year… And th...
