Has anyone had experience of using creatine monohydrate supplementation with cycling?
I recently read an article in the Guardian which refers to published journal articles reporting benefits for high intensity or ‘explosive’ training and some potential benefits for endurance training, It seems to have been tested in weight lifters and sprinters rather than endurance sports. Additional reported potential benefits are for improvement in cognition and muscle loss in the elderly.
I'd be interested to know if anyone has tried it and whether they found any benefit or detriment for any mode of cycling.

Hello Si
You're having the same thoughts as me. I used creatine years ago when doing triathlon. I noticed an immediate weight gain because it causes you to retain water with no noticeable gains in performance or recovery at that time (about 30 years ago). That's not to say that if I returned to it at over 60 the results would be different. Holland & Barrett have offers on for Micronised Creatine at present and I was thinking of giving it a tilt for a trial period. There seems to be nothing to lose as the side effects are minimal. I'll Whatsapp a link to the product which looks ok.
You could also look at the supplements L-Carnitine and BCAA's. I use both and can vouch for them. They seem to help with the faster rides (L-Carnitine) and recovery (BCAA's). Unfortunately, nothing seems to arrest the aging process but anything to keep us going legally without profound side effects is worthwhile in my view. I need all the help I can get!
