WEEKLY UPDATE:
SO where do we start this week? Rory McIlroy, Matthieu van der Poel, Villa winning again? Let's start nearer to home and what Beacon riders were doing at the weekend.
Starting with the track event at Halesowen on Sunday...A good turn out, loads of kids and a few adults racing as well. The youngsters took to racing quickly, with some of them proving too good just to use freewheel bikes, and were tried out on fixed wheel racing. We had a BC coach there encouraging and teaching kids how to race, and thanks as usual to Ade Ravenscroft for organising this...and the weather gods played fair and gave everybody a dry afternoon!
Beacon riders are still riding long...Carina (again!) rode a 300kms DIY Audax late last week to build on her league at the top of the Audax points chart, but John Williams, Karl Walton and Richard Greer all matched that 300kms with one of their own on Saturday. Great work from all that were out and piling on the points... which means we are still top six of all BC registered clubs in Britain for Audax points. Let's keep it going.
It was the first Beacon TT at the weekend, and 21 riders were out on the popular 20 mile course at Shell Ford on Saturday. The overall winners were Xav Disley and Jess Disley in the male/female categories, formerly of this parish of course, and with a new course record for women, Jess is really flying and it augers well for more rainbow colours somewhere this year to match Xav's British champion jersey. Ed Moss was the fastest Beacon rider, who hurtled round minutes below the magical 50min barrier.. A further four Beacon riders rode, and congrats to all...and to the helpers and organisers especially Dave Cole, Alan Nicholls and Simon Woodward. The next TT is in a few weeks, so look out for that and go along and ride fast.
With all this excitement, there was only one club run out, and thanks to Michelle Thompson for leading the ride to Kinver, so obviously it was a lumpy morning out. I don't think I have the names of all who rode, so if you did ride and your name is NOT listed, please let me know.
That's it, it's Easter this coming weekend, perfect for little easter bunnies, lashings of chocolate and leading a club run. Don't look at the first two until you commit to the third.
Happy Easter.
