WEEKLY REPORT:
Well, what a barnstorming weekend, warm sunshine, perfect conditions to ride a bike and no doubt you all noticed that cyclists were everywhere on the lanes of Britain this weekend. Where do we start? How about with the club run leaders who stepped up again, namely me, Ewan Ross and Paul Balfe's excellent trip out to the Cyclists' Memorial ceremony in Meriden. Always good to see a decent Beacon representation there.
...but wow, what a Sunday it was, and is there a better rural cafe to have an iced latte and a Gloucester Old Spot sandwich than the Apple Tree Kitchen between Martley and Clifton-on-Teme...just perfect!
What else was happening? Three things to raise our hats to...namely Ed Moss' simply brilliant TT on Saturday, where he finished 4th at the National VTTA 10mile TT, with a time of 21:15. Secondly, hats off to Celia Brown who rode the Gralloch Gravel Race up in the Scottish Borders, and finished a strong second and qualified for the Worlds in October, despite her Di2 slipping into crash mode some 57 miles from the finish (I know the only joke in the world about di2 crash mode, ask me when you see me!). Thirdly, hats off to John Williams who rode the 600kms Bryan Chapman Audax from Chepstow, up to Anglesey and back on Saturday, finishing on Sunday - a tough old route that through the mountain passes of Wales, especially for a ginge in bright sunshine for 36 hours...a top ride from an audax machine...
...and a doff of the cap to Stuart Jones, who rode the very tough Tour of the Peaks on Sunday (180kms and 3,800m of climbing!)...superb ride that, Stu!
It's the week after next, but Tuesday the 28th (7pm) sees the 20mile TT Club Championships in conjunction with our friends at Droitwich CC, so why not come along for a blast around the lanes of Himbleton.. if you can't ride, then why not volunteer to marshal, there are one or two junctions that would benefit from having a marshal there, so think on and get along.
That's it for this week, don't forget to please let me know if you have ridden something good or unusual, these weekly updates are all about spreading the word, so just tell me about it and you'll see your name in lights!
See you on the road
Phil
