WEEKLY UPDATE:

Good to see the message board back working normally...check it out for all your Beacon requirements!

We all love a bit of good news on what we do making a difference, and as many of you know, in Adrian Ravenscroft, we have someone who dedicates themselves in bringing on junior riders, especially those with no experience on our Wednesday evening academy events at Ackers. A couple of days ago, we had this message from an Ackers helper...

do you remember the two little lads from one of the Ackers nights in April? Curtis and Cody, they were the littlest and you ended up running the whole route pushing them! Well I've bumped into them in our local park and both of them are riding really brilliantly on their own bikes. And they cycle to school each day too. They've been practicing and are now super quick and in control of their bikes. You wouldn't recognise them and I know you'd love to hear how your event sparked them into riding their bikes so much more! ... Everybody starts their cycling journey somewhere, and Beacon Academy is the source of many young person's journey! Hats off again to Adrian!

As well as Ade, kudos of the week goes to John Williams and his second 600kms ride in the last couple of weeks, this time Birmingham-Bournemouth-Birmingham DIY Audax at the weekend...Unfortunately his wingman, the normally indestructible Karl Walton had to bail halfway due to illness, but John completed the ride in a day and a half...superb stuff, John! Talking of stupidly long rides, it is less than 2-weeks to the one-day Weston and Back extravaganza scheduled for Saturday June 15th at 05:30 (Alan Weaver's two-day trip is two weeks later, more info on that next week)...shout up if you're interested in cycling over 350kms for a bag of chips!

There were also half a dozen Beacon riders out on the Hay Skivers Audax on Friday, a horribly lumpy ride out to Gospel Pass and back...hats off to Dr Philip Whiteman for organising this ride on behalf of Droitwich CC and for ensuring some sunshine and warmth...

We had a B, C and D ride out at the weekend, and the usual thanks to the leaders Matt Hale, Mariana Sorrill and Paul Balfe...superb stuff from all.

Finally, we would love to see more racing in the club, so take a look at Martin Davis' shout out for Wednesday night road races throughout June and July that he's posted on the Facebook page...be good to get some Beacon riders out to support him...

Don't forget, please let me know of any of your cycling adventures, races or anything of interest that's going on... I can't publicise what I don't know

See you out on the re-surfaced chippings...

Phil
