POSTPONED TILL SATURDAY 22ND JUNE - A-Ride to Weston and Back on Saturday 15th June: Leaves the BH at 05:30

Hi all,

Due to a variety of reasons, this ride has been postponed for a week till Saturday June 22nd - Apologies if this change of date buggers up your plans, but hopefully it may even be better for a few of you. Anyway, same route, same depart, even more fun!...and we go whatever the weather, even if I'm on my own!

The Saturday A-Ride this week will be the Weston-super-Mare and back. The route is 368kms long and will begin at 05:30 from the Black Horse, expected back around midnight, so this is a monster club run, but one that every member should do at least once. This is the one-day trip, and you also have Alan's splendid two-day option to Weston on June 29th and back on the 30th. As the new Pier to Pier cycleway is unlikely to have opened (grrrr), we will use the following route which routes southbound via the Forest of Dean and over the Severn at Chepstow, and routes northbound wholly in England on the flat lanes east of the River Severn to Gloucester, and then on to home

The route will almost certainly be this one:
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46950466
Date: Saturday 22nd June
Departure: 5:30am from the Black Horse, expected back approx midnight

This is a long old day, and in many ways is a rites of passage for Beacon members, as this one day event is part of Beacon folklore, where it used to be ridden annually but in the cold dark month of February!!!! So we have it easy riding in mid-June where nearly all the ride will be in daylight:

Note that I will start and finish at my house in Elmbridge so my route is 344kms and will meet the main group at the Webbs roundabout in Wychbold at 6:04am...shout if you want to park your car at mine and do this ever so slightly shorter route.

Riding were:

Naomi Bell
Stuart Jones
Neil Lynch
Phil Richards (Leading)
Nick Shenton
Mick Stanford
Ben Walmsley
Andy Wrightson

The advanced forecast looks more promising for the new date than it looks currently for the original.

Put my name down for this ride please, Phil.

I'm in Phil, despite the weather, might give me the occasion to wear that expensive shake dry jacket!

Come on, lads, Bad weather for the W&B is part of the fun!
It is better to be interesting rather than exact

ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR SATURDAY...hint of an early shower but generally dry and late teens so no excuses!

A few things to help you plan the day:

- It would be great if we wear the Beacon BLUE tops (if you have one) on Saturday so that we look a well oiled machine rather than a ragbag...so blue yourself up please

- This ride leaves the Black Horse at 05:30 sharp, and me and Nick will meet you at the Webbs roundabout on the A38 in Wychbold at 06:04.

- Bring good lights, although it is very nearly the longest day, we will have 2-3hours of dark at the end of the ride.

- Stops on this ride are programmed to be:
- St George's Bakery in Corse Lawn at 69kms (hot snacks and hot drinks)
- Tesco Express shop stop in Chepstow at 126kms
- Weston seafront fish and chips at 190kms
- Thornbury OneStop shop stop at 251kms
- Tewkesbury Royal Hop Pole Wetherspoons (serve food till 22:30) or Shell petrol station at 312kms

So the ride sections are 40miles or so each...there may be people who want to ride non-stop home from Weston, and that's fine, but equally, there are people who have never ridden this distance, so best to balance these two requirements.

See you Saturday...check your bike over for tyre wear, and charge your di2's, we're going to the seaside
