WEEKLY UPDATE:
Storm Ashley came, and although it wasn't catastrophic, it certainly put paid to any cycling activities on Sunday...I saw you all, scurrying into your garage/loft/spare bedroom/conservatory to dust off your turbo trainer, seeing if your Zwift account still works, and riding indoors...we all have months of that ahead, eh? So get out when the sun shines...next week looks good, so why not get yourself down to lead.
With the lack of cycling action, kudos of the week goes to Luke Hutcheson, for a spirited 2:57 at the Amsterdam Marathon, although over 10mins behind his PB, getting stitch and a quad injury and still run sub 3-hours is a great effort...well done. matey!
Almost getting kudos of the week (but he gets loads of those) was Mick Stanford who posted that he was riding a new off-road 60miler in Shropshire, but unfortunately the River Severn being 4.6 metres higher than normal meant that a lot of the route was under water. Undeterred, Mick followed some cyclists into Shrewsbury and joined their club run instead....give me their names, Mick and I'll give them a club point as you were leading! (joke...although with me, it's difficult to tell sometimes)
Hats off to Noel O'Dwyer, who with his keen animal sixth sense, felt the deepening pressure systems in his cranial nerve endings (or did he just look at the BBC weather App?) and rode out to Nom in Flyford Flavell on Saturday instead...excellent planning, Noel and don't forget, anyone can plan club rides to anywhere on any weekend date for them to count...We're still waiting for someone to post local off-road, gravel or MTB club runs...they will count, although preferably not when the local rivers are 4.6metres above normal.
That's it...don't forget three things...
- The Dinner and Awards night is on Saturday 16th November at the Black Horse, Northfield.
- The Beacon cross event is on Sunday 8th December, please sign up to help out.
- The Sunrise and Snowdrop Audaxes are now open for entry on the Audax UK website. These are on Saturday 22nd February 2025, and we already have a dozen entries on the first day of opening. This event sells out normally by January, so just get yourself booked on
That's it, the storm has passed, and it's sunshine all the way now till Christmas...honest.

' lack of cycling action' ?!!? - The academy's Freddie & Vet 50+ Jason might have something to say about that. Two Beacon cxers weren't put off.
Some things actually DO happen that are not on Strava
