Off Road Ride to Netherton Tunnel, 32 miles. Sunday 10th 9.15 start

Post by Mick Stanford » 08 Nov 2024 16:34

A mainly off road ride to and through one of the longest canal tunnels in the UK, the Netherton Tunnel, Dudley.
We will be starting at the Black Horse with a short road rode to the Rae Valley Route. We will then pick up the canals through Birmingham Centre and out through Smethwick on to Netherton where we cycle just under the 3km stretch of pitch dark tunnel, you will need a good light.
Cafe stop is just after the tunnel at Bumble Hole nature reserve.
Suitable for gravel or mountain bikes.
There are steps over a bridge a couple of good climbs on our return. There are also some short road sections.

Meet at Black Horse at 9.15am

the start of route is along Rae Valley which is mucky and slippy in places. Start with us and see how you get on, there are plenty of places to bail as we head into town along canals through bournville, selly oak, past university.
The tunnel has deep potholes full of water which will be slow going for everyone. The cafe is just after so if anyone needs to walk we can meet there.
A good frint light in essential in tunnel
