Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 31st of March3

WEEKLY UPDATE:

A bit of rain in the forecast did little to dampen club runs this week, and with around 22 riders out on the 3 club runs, the proof that we're a hard bunch is there for all to see.

Big thanks tot he leaders as always, namely Ade Ravenscroft, Pete Norman, and Dave Cox, stout Yeoman of the Guard one and all. So let's pick Ade's ride and analyse it further...

- First, it was a Beacon Burst.. This is a non-stop ride, and we have loads of routes to choose from on our Club Ridewith gps account, which is free to access to all members!

- Secondly, a Burst is a great idea when time is poor, or the weather is iffy, so why not suggest it yourself rather than wait till you have a completely free day

- Thirdly, it was led by Ade Ravenscroft, and this tipped him over 15 volunteer points for the season, so he has free Beacon kit awarded!!! This was timely, as he needed a new pair of Beacon bib shorts. They are his, free-of-charge, so why not follow his example and volunteer at the upcoming Beacon events, such a the new time trial season, academy nights and the like... and a nice bit of snazzy kit might be yours before the summer's out

- Fourthly, on Ade's ride, Andy's bike hit something hard, and the di2 mechanism went into CRASH MODE... No one ever knows what to do when this happens, so it necessitated a bit of YouTube watching on the roadside before it was overridden and went back to normal. Di2 has a number of issues that is best to know about, only last week my di2 started playing 1980's electro synth music very loudly for no reason...it had somehow gone into Depeche Mode . <@> (I'll get me coat)

- and lastly, as we know Ade is old school. No GPS is used, so this club run was completed by sticking together and instructions on when to tun being shouted down the line...how wonderful, and I heard that people actually enjoyed this for a change, so please don't feel you HAVE to submit digital images of everything in advance, if you lead, you can say how and what route you will use...the RidewithGPS route library is there if you want it, but it isn't mandatory!

That's it, sorry about the di2 joke, it's the only one I know, and watch out for details on the Big Cafe Rendezvous, the first of which will be on Sunday 6th April... be great to see lots of us there!

Enjoy your week

Phil

I was never big into Depeche Mode but I did enjoy their brief but unforgettable foray into surreal French political satire. Ah! Giscard est un oeuf. remains a classic of the genre.
