Thanks to all the timekeepers, marshals and other helpers for all your efforts. And even bigger thanks to Leigh for mitigating my embarrassment slightly!

My pleasure George, if only I picked up my aero helmet!

Haha. I brought both, because I wasn't sure what was allowed, and couldn't make up my mind which was least period-incorrect to go with the bike. Turned out that no one else knew what was allowed either, and for some unknown reason no one seemed to see me as a threat in the standings, or consequently to care about what I wore. In hindsight, I think going for the pointy hat was a mistake, actually. I haven't worn it for years and had forgotten how uncomfortable and vision-restricting it is. The distraction disadvantage probably more than compensated for the aero advantage. So I think it's probably time to put the bloody thing on eBay.

Here are the results of the handicap - tricky one to handicap as data on a straight 10 is limited and then most of that is on a TT bike. I have gone by using data from the K36 4.5*2 and then multiplied by 10/9 to get to a 10 mile handicap. One could multiply a bit more to make allowance for moving from TT bike to RB but have ignored (as the handicap increases for everyone the effect is therefore limited. This gives the following results

Est Act H'cap H'cap time
Matt Hale 26.52 27.10 5.52 21.58
Ed Moss 22.34 24.24 1.34 22.50
Celia Brown 24.46 26.51 3.46 23.05
George Barker 26.07 29.46 5.07 24.39
Leigh Hopkins 26.07 29.46 5.07 24.39
Ian Taylor 23.08 27.25 2.08 25.17

& congratulations to Matt Hale on winning.

Congratulations, Matt.

(But I'll be gunning for you at next year's event, now that I've got an appallingly slow baseline time for calculation of my handicap!)
