Congratulations to Jon on an excellent 7th place in the final round of the cyclocross National Trophy in Shrewsbury yesterday. This was especially good considering his gridding at the back of the field and really shows he's competitive with the best in the country. The course at Shrewsbury is really tricky and technical and the conditions were frozen pretty hard for Jon's race.

Unfortunately an hour later for my race the course had turned into very sticky thick mud and I broke a spoke before clogging up my wheels so badly that they stopped turning. A course/day where you had to have a spare bike - though admittedly I was pretty much lanterne rouge when I abandoned.

Veteran 50
1 Mick Bell London Fire Brigade CC 45 mins 5 secs
2 Steven Davies Team Jewson/Thule/Kinesis/CNP/MI @ 0 mins 13 secs
3 Mick Davies Pedal Power Loughborough @ 2 mins 3 secs
4 Peter Harris Pearce Cycles RT @ 2 mins 38 secs
5 Mick Rowson RVO Racing @ 3 mins 5 secs
6 Ian Wright Cycle Shack/Forme Coaching @ 3 mins 10 secs
7 John Rice Beacon Roads CC @ 3 mins 12 secs
8 Tim Stowe Team Jewson/Thule/Kinesis/CNP/MI @ 4 mins 0 secs
9 Douglas Fox Crawley Wheelers @ 4 mins 11 secs
10 Malcolm Cross Hargroves Cycles/Trant/Next/Spec @ 4 mins 35 secs
11 Kevin Payton Stourbridge CC @ 5 mins 52 secs

Special thanks to Gary Mac for his help and support for Jon and I.

Should have said, full report and photos, videos etc here

Also worth noting that three of those who beat Jon are regulars in the West Mids League, so when Jon is highly placed in the local league he is competing against the best guys for his age in the country.

I had wondered why Jon had been taking it easy at Saturday's session. Clearly, he was preserving his legs.

It is fair to say that the West Mids has some very fine top level riders in all categorys. Former 3 times National Champions each in vets, Louise Robinson and Isla Roundtree, 1st and 2nd on Sunday, and current junior woman N.C. Hannah Payton. Darren Atkins who won Sundays 40`s event, Jack Ravenscroft current national junior champ and again winner on Sunday. And so on.
Course conditions as Ruth rightly says were very tricky, more so as the day went on, I just got away with it without changing bikes. Thanks to Gary for his pitting and support.
Nationals all the way for me next year if things go to plan.
