As ever, there a fools and damn fools in cycling. The latter enter our The Kidderminster Killer and the former enter From Clee to Heaven.

...The Beacon's most audacious cycling event.

22nd JULY - STARTING FROM BELBROUGHTON REC

THE KIDDERMINSTER KILLER

This audacious audax has a long history and the Beacon RCC is proud to continue with and to develop the event. This epic event follows a stunning but vertically challenged route: Out via the Stretton Hills; crossing the border into Mid-Wales; and back via the escarpments facing over The Marches. 212km in length; 3,750m of ascent; 3.75 AAA points.

Belbroughton - Wenlock Edge - Acton Scott - Long Mynd - Montgomery - Clun - Ludlow - Clee Hill escarpment - Belbroughton

FROM CLEE TO HEAVEN
This Figure of 8 audax is aimed at riders seeking a shorter but challenging ride. It incorporates spectacular views and tranquil lanes clinging that cling to the side of the Clee Hills. What a great way to see Shropshire's legendary blue hills of A E Housman fame! 120km in length; 2,000m of ascent, 2AAA points.

Belbroughton - Wyre forest - Rays Farm - Clee Hills - Rays Farm - Highley - Belbroughton

We don't race on audaxes (believe that and you will believe anthing), but....

The first female and male riders back on the Clee to Heaven and Kidderminster Killer will be presented with a free bottle of beer from breweries in close proximity to the routes. Breweries featured include Salopian, Woods, Hobsons, Monty and the Shropshire Brewer.

Thank you everyone for your offer of support at this year’s Kidderminster Killer audax on 22nd July. I have produced the usual list outlining locations, times and roles along with additional comments.

Changes to the event:

• The Ludlow control for the KK is now a ‘free-control’, meaning that a controller is no longer required;
• The Clee to Heaven audax has been rerouted slightly to avoid the ford after the second Rays Farm stop.

People:

1. GHQ Controller: Philip Whiteman, 06.30-09.30; 14.00-22.45

2. GHQ Marshals: Oscar and Chaz, 07.15 – 09.00

3. GHQ Clear-up: Dave Cox, 21.30 – 22.45

4. GHQ Refreshments: Michelle, 07.15 – 09.00; Lynne, 14.30 – 17.30; Matt, 17.30 – 21.30

5. Acton Scott Controller: John Hamilton, 10.14 – 12.35

6. Rays Farm Controller: Mark Rigby, 10.38 – 15.44

Many thanks again,

Philip

Many thanks.....

Lynne Yeates, David Cox, Charlie Skinner, Oscar Hopkins, Michelle Mcguirk, Steve Smith, Barry Evans, Matt, Beccy and Cameron Regan for helping out with the audax - along with AUK controllers John Hamilton and Mark Rigby.

Also, to all the participants at yesterday's event, many of whom were new to the dark side of cycling with some new to cycling!

Great event and thanks to everyone for making it happen.

I enjoyed my bottle of Shropshire Gold beer thanks. But in hindsight I should have drunk it when I got home really and not at the HQ then ride home!
