Well that was a great turn out last week. Good to see so many new faces as well as old ones returning to time trials.
Lets see if we can go even better this week.
Go on it's only £3 give it a go!

There is not really a limit for riders but the timekeeper cannot be at the start and finish at the same time so if rider 1 gets to the finish before the last rider starts his time cannot be recorded and additional is required to start riders if we have many more than 20.We are not really allowed to start at less than 1 minute intervals without special circumstancesdweben wrote:Is there a limit on the number of riders, or just don't like starting them after the first rider has finished?
Could always just set people off at 30 or 45 sec intervals instead if it gets a bit crowded...

Well done again Steve. Some real hot competition on what could have been a dreadful night had the rain come half an hour later. Many riders were drenched to the skin as they started but spirits were not dampened.
And how neat of Richard and Gary to tie for 12th spot, thus removing the need for someone to come 13th.
See you all next week for the last in the current series at the Triangle.

Great event, first time I've done a time trial and first 'competitive' outing on a bike of any sort for around 25 years. I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed it and a big thanks to all marshals, time keepers and helpers for turning out in such awful conditions.
I don't think I've ever been as wet as I was when we arrived at the start (wringing my socks out and soaking Pat - apologies sir!) but happily that was all forgotten as we got underway. Some great times posted, well done Steve and respect to all who took part.
Matt, those new wheels were worth every penny!

Well done to Matt, Nic, Andy and the gang. Some really impressive times last night. Matt should be banned from ever going on a B run in future. PB for Chris as well, can't ask for much better than that.
As I rode over in the torrential rain I consoled myself with the thought that probably only about 3 nutters would turn up and I could soon go home again........... and when I arrived there was just Brian sheltering in his car and no other signs of life from the few other cars. Then the rain stopped and suddenly 19 riders appeared!
Well done everyone - just goes to show there's no need to let a few drops of rain put you off.

Thundery showers are often followed/preceded by brief spells of almost total calm and weird localised air-pressure phenomena. Also, I think I read years ago that moisture in the air works almost like a lubricant, reducing the drag. So, although it can be unpleasant to race in such conditions, you can sometimes go very fast around midsummer downpours.Patch wrote:Funny how what on the face of it could have been a terrible evening was brilliant.

handicap points
Do we have a simple formula for working out handicap points, perhaps i am being stupid but it does not make much sense to me. Matt Regan had the biggest improvement last night 46 seconds but was only awarded 33 points. Pat McCabe improved by 22 seconds and was awarded 40 points. Nic Vipond improved by 19 secs and was awarded 36 points etc. I know it is only a bit of fun but could somebody explain.
Re: handicap points
I think Matt's is an error - looks like he should be 1st. Pat McCabe's looks OK - I think he may have got a bonus for his age group as did Bob Green. But I'm only making an educated guess in both cases!Steve Bull wrote:Do we have a simple formula for working out handicap points, perhaps i am being stupid but it does not make much sense to me. Eat cake before you're hungry
Oh, no, Ed. There's always an excuse for not going fast. I know lots and lots. You've clearly been looking for them hard enough, which explains a great deal.Ed Moss wrote:So what you are saying George is that there is NO excuse for not going fast?
What I am saying is that there's often (but by no means always) an opportunity to go fast in the period around a midsummer downpour ... which seems counter-intuitive until you've experienced it a couple of times.
Having checked the spreadsheet I think 0.4 should come off Matt's time to convert it from a decimal to minutes and seconds.CakeStop wrote:Full table will always be at http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/club_races/ ... _table.xls

Apologies, particularly to Matt - another 40 seconds should come off your handicap time which makes you 1st on handicap for last night. Will re-issue later this weekend. Pat M - I have you down as over 60 but not sure of my sources. The age categories are U18, 18 - 60 and over 60. Let me know if I have you in the wrong category. Thanks for the comments and looked like a good night and a great turnout. Best Simon
It may be poss that the results were not fully updated after the regular events on the course which would give the error all results are based on your PB for the course if you have 1, age related results can sometimes be missed if we do not have a riders age which can usually be found on the signing on sheet

Reissued handicap results
All now completed and a change on Gary Macintosh as he did have a time last year which means a different handicap. Therefore Gary M takes full honours for this week followed by Matt. Pat's 17 age seconds fall away. Updated full results will be on the normal link although overall standings have very little change. Here is hoping the rain goes away.
