Handicaps for 2015

Post by Simon Dighton » 27 Dec 2014 08:48

Have just completed first draft of handicaps for the coming season and will ask Steve S to put up. Please take a look and let me know if any obvious errors.

As a quick explanation these handicap times are deducted from your actual time on a time trial to give a handicap time. Lowest handicap time gets the most points etc.

Handicaps are based on, in order, actual times on same course, actual times on similar courses, estimate based on performances compared to fellow riders and if less than 4 events ridden then standard handicap. If on a standard handicap then a rider's handicap time is restricted in a way that means they will rank behind anyone that scores a PB or estimated PB based on above.

With Richard Bussell and Steve Povey I have taken their handicap as zero unless coming from an actual ride - seriously strong riders to put it mildly. The two Claires are on standard handicaps at the moment but will then revise after a couple more rides as their handicaps don't look too challenging given their performances in 2014.

The date for the 50 mile club championship is a guess at the moment - depends on other clubs currently.

Please let me know if any questions.

Best

Carl's question

Hi Carl,
Get the handicap time as soon as done the course once - and then updated each time after that if relevant (ie if you keep pb'ing)

Hi Simon
Unsure, but feel that the handicaps for k37/6, k37/12 and little mountain appear challenging in comparison to stronger riders and I have never ridden these courses. Also, the k20/5 should both read 2.58.
Have a great new year

Thanks Simon,

Have changed the 2.58 (and logic applied to a few others as well). Have not yet re-issued but is now sorted on the master version I have here.

On the base handicaps think will stick - eg LMTT handicap time larger than say the 50 mile. The other two are pretty much in line with the other distances around, eg the 12 miler is a larger handicap than the 10. The 9 mile handicap is greater than the 6 by similar ratio. Final results should not be too affected as a rider on a base handicap can't go below the base time and issue self correcting as soon as a rider takes part in a few TT's.

Thanks Simon
Much appreciated, Simon

Thanks Simon.
I was querying my handicap times, not the base, as I have never ridden these courses, thought I would be on a base time. I thought 2.06 for a twelve miler challenging.
