Sunday
Club Runs Most
Sundays we have three club runs, usually heading for the same destination, offering
a choice of distances and average speeds.
- 'A' runs
cover 55 to 70 miles averaging over 16 mph
- 'B' runs cover 50 to 65 miles
averaging 14 to 16 mph
- ‘C’ runs cover 45 to 60 miles averaging 12 to
14 mph
- Speeds vary according to weather, participants and terrain
- Each
week's run is led by an experienced rider
- Destinations vary from week to week
- Routes based mainly on country lanes, chosen by run leader
On
the first Sunday of each month, there is also an introductory
ride for newcomers, which covers 20 to 30 miles at about 10mph average speed.
We ride as a group so if you are comfortable riding alone for 15 miles in approximately
1.5 hours you should have no problem.
All the rides include a café stop for elevenses at about
half distance. With the exception of ‘D’ runs all Sunday club
runs meet at 9am for a 9.15 start from the Black Horse public
house, at the junction of Bristol Road and Frankley Beeches
Road, Northfield [map].
Most people ride to the Black Horse but if you need to drive
please note that parking restrictions apply to the pub car
park. The runs usually get back to Birmingham around 2pm but
this varies depending on the destination, the route and which
of the three runs is chosen.
We aim to keep all our runs together and people
with mechanical problems are not abandoned. However, you shouldn't start a ride
if you think that you or your machine might not be up to it. All participants
are expected to be familiar with and follow our Club
Run Guidelines.
People who are thinking about joining the club are always
welcome to do a couple of club runs on a trial basis following
which we would be delighted if you choose to join the Beacon.
For Sunday 'A', 'B' and ‘C’ runs, there is no need to make
prior arrangements: just come to the Black Horse and introduce
yourself. Do check the runs
list first, though, to make sure there is actually a ride
taking place because occasionally other events take place
on Sundays.
